The LATA Foundation

The LATA Foundation is a UK-based charity (Registered Charity Number 1123580) dedicated to promoting sustainable development in Latin America and responsible business practices in the tourism industry. It was originally conceived and set up by members of the Latin American Travel Association (LATA) and is overseen by an independent board of Trustees.

The Objects of the LATA Foundation are as follows

• To promote sustainable development for the benefit of the public of Latin America by:
  (a) the preservation, conservation and the protection of the environment and the prudent use of natural resources; or
  (b) the relief of poverty and the improvement of the conditions of life in socially and economically disadvantaged communities; or
  (c) the promotion of sustainable means of achieving economic growth and regeneration.
  
• To advance the education of the public in subjects relating to sustainable development and the protection, enhancement and rehabilitation of the environment and to promote study and research in such subjects provided that the useful results of such study are disseminated to the public at large.
• To advance education for the benefit of the people of Latin America in socially and environmentally responsible business practices among companies, organisations and individuals participating or employed in the tourism industry whose activities impact on the public or on the environment of Latin America.
• Any other charitable purposes as the Trustees may select for the benefit of the public of Latin America.

Who can apply for support?

Any Latin America based charitable operation or registered NGO with proposals for work in areas connected to tourism and which would fulfill one or more of the above Objects may apply for funding.  We also particularly welcome referrals from LATA Members who have contact with or knowledge of suitable local projects.  All applications should be sent to info@latafoundation.org

Projects should ideally be in communities that already have some link to tourism. Any project should be related to the tourism industry and its impact. In addition, any project that the LATA Foundation supports must provide exclusively charitable public benefit.
