Information

The LATA Foundation was set up by the Latin America Travel Association (LATA) to support  charitable projects throughout the region. The LATA Foundation is staffed entirely by volunteers both here and in Latin America. All donations go directly to our projects as our administration costs (e.g. Justgiving fees) are covered by LATA and we don't incur any office expenses.

The aims of the LATA Foundation are as follows:

  • Preservation, conservation and the protection of the environment.
  • Relief of poverty.
  • Sustainable development, economic growth and regeneration.
  • Promotion of ethical and responsible business practices.

Our Projects

Our projects are our priority.  Although we were only founded in 2008, we have supported 14 projects to date:

  • Nicaragua Water Project: providing clean water to over 1000 people
  • Children in Colombia: training in carpentry and baking
  • Medical centre in Bolivia: supporting vulnerable children
  • Reforestation in Peru: part of an initiative to plant a million trees by 2020
  • Conservation in the Galapagos: Native Gardens and water conservation
  • Sewing School in Mexico: new skills with which to generate an income
  • Natural cosmetics in Guatemala:  cottage industry shampoos, soaps and face creams
  • Water fountain in Mexico: safe drinking water used by 500 people every day
  • Recycling and Waste-management in Brazil: education and environmental project
  • Dental clinic in Argentina: free dental care to hundreds of children in Buenos Aires
  • Turtle Protection in Venezuela: Help us by adopting a turtle!
  • Education in the Galapagos: conservation, social development and language skills
  • Threads of Peru:  a project supporting traditional weaving skills in the Andes
  • ChildHope, Peru: supporting families affected by floods in Peru

You can click onto our projects pages to see what we have acheived to date. The LATA Foundation is actively  looking for new projects in Brazil, Chile and Ecuador. Eventually we want to have projects throughout Central and South  America and for the work of the LATA Foundation to have a lasting and enduring impact.

We welcome referrals from supporters and corporate partners who have contacts or knowledge of suitable local grass-roots projects in Latin America.  Please let us have your ideas and suggestions: projects@latafoundation.org

All donations go directly to projects

We are grateful to our friends at the Latin America Travel Association (LATA) for covering our minor administrative costs such as bank transfer fees, our monthly justgiving account fees, paper and toner cartridges.  We don't incur any office costs and we are entirely run by volunteers so this way our supporters and donors can be sure that their money - every pound and every penny - goes directly to our projects.

How you can help us

Get involved with the LATA Foundation

If you would like to get more involved with the LATA Foundation there are lots of ways you can help us, with fundraising, organising events, supporting our members, finding prizes for raffles and competitions,   campaigning and raising the profile of the organisation and getting involved with projects.

Donate a prize for a fundraising event

The LATA Foundation cannot function without direct financial support, but on occasion there may be opportunities to offer a prize as an additional incentive for fundraising.

Please contact us if you or your organisation would like to consider donating a prize for a fundraising event:  events@latafoundation.org.

How we can help you

Information

If you need information about any of our projects or require leaflets about the LATA Foundation, please let us know. If you require a logo for anything you produce, please contact us.  If you need to talk to any of the trustees or need the active support of any of the LATA Foundation Ambassadors, please get in touch: events@latafoundation.org

Guidance

We can help you plan and set up events. The key things are to decide the type of event, date and venue, working out what needs to be done,  ensuring sufficient volunteers to manage the event, to keep it safe, to promote the event and, of course, to collect donations!

Publicity

We can help publicise your activities via our newsletters, social media, campaigns and contacts. It is easy and quick to set up a justgiving fundraising page but we can help you if necessary.

Donations

None of our work would be possible without the support of individuals and organisations. If you can make a regular donation this would help us enormously. If you are a UK taxpayer please help us further by ensuring we can reclaim the tax you pay via Gift Aid.  The more you give, the more we raise, the more we can do to make a difference throughout Latin America.

You can set up a monthly or a single donation on our justgiving website:

Thank you!
