The New Era Galapagos Foundation provides not-for-profit extra-curricular educational classes for 100 youths and around 20 adults living in San Cristóbal. The New Era Galapagos Foundation has been operating for 14 years and has an emphasis on conservation, social development and language teaching for the purpose of maximising employment prospects. Indeed, some of their former students are now working as tour guides and marine biologists.

Doris Welsh of Ecoventura put the LATA Foundation in touch with this project and we recently appealed to our friends in the travel industry to provide a laptop, projector and educational materials to help the New Era Galapagos Foundation with their work.
Roberto Teran from Ecuadorian Tours immediately responded and kindly agreed to donate a laptop which one of his staff recently delievered to San Cristobal.
We are also grateful to Metropolitan Touring and to the Fundación Galápagos who have delivered a projector to the school and who have pledged to provide educational materials and classroom supplies. The Fundación Galápagos is supported by a number of boat operators including Metropolitan Touring, Angermeyer Cruises, Canodros, Quasar Nautica, Celebrity Cruises, Rolf Wittmer Turismo and Galasam.
Rosario Arroyo, Office Manager in Metropolitan Touring's London office comments: "We are delighted to support this project and hope it is just the start of a stronger relationship with the New Era Galapagos Foundation. Through the Fundación Galápagos, which was set up by Metropolitan but which receives wider support from other boat operators, we have helped to set up and support a number of social projects, particularly in Santa Cruz, the most populated of the islands. This is an excellent way to extend our support elsewhere."
William Puga Vasquez, director of New Era Galapagos Foundation, says: "With the help of many volunteers from around the world, we have managed to teach English, environmental studies, art and conservation for the last 14 years. We hope to serve the wider community by developing recycling, waste management and other activities that will help San Cristobal and the tourists who come here. I am delighted that the LATA Foundation has given us their support. I should also like to thank Ecuadorian Tours for providing us with the laptop, Metropolitan Touring and the Fundacion Galapagos for the projector and for their help for the local community."
David Gilmour, chairman of the LATA Foundation, adds: "This is another great example of what can be achieved by travel companies working together to support good projects. Many thanks to all."
